Caitlin and Ben | Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa | Birmingham Alabama | AK Brides | Real Wedding

Caitlin and Ben are both “top of the charts” Disney fanatics and when our bride came to us and told us her dream theme for her wedding day, I was so excited to get started on all the planning details and the fun!  Not only were her little toe nails painted with Mickey Mouse ears, we even had a a sparkling blue “Cinderella Sipper” and the “Mad Hatter” signature drinks but we also had a show stopper wedding cake topped with a Swarovski Crystal castle!  Wait staff entered the ballroom in unison with trays of plated entrees to the theme song from Beauty and the Beast “Be Our Guest”. Caitlin chose colors of purples, lavenders and silvers displayed throughout the details including the linens, table top chargers, centerpieces and her stunning bridal teardrop bouquet.  Don’t miss the glass slipper on the ring bearer’s pillow! Our host venue, Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa did an outstanding job serving all of our guests and all of our professional vendors went above and beyond their creative talents to transform this ballroom into a magical Disney experience!                                                                                             Our “Cinderella Sipper” signature drink!!         How much fun are these Mickey ears and gloves!!!  All of their guests were treated to the mouse ears and some fun things throughout the night!   A beautiful first dance... read more

Ginna and Ty | Mountain Brook Alabama | AK Brides | Real Wedding

Oh my goodness, this is Southern elegance at it’s finest!!  Our sweet bride Ginna wanted all of her family and friends to have the best time at her wedding with the best band available so they can dance the night away!  Surrounding all of the fun would be the finer elements of her wedding day with lush green garlands and white and pink florals.  Ginna described her wedding day as a beautiful Summer garden with romance  at the top of the list.   Streaming ribbons flowed from her bridesmaids bouquets and the garlands and wreaths at the church and the country club.  Even our bride’s Anne Barge wedding gown from The White Room exuded romance and elegance with head to toe lace and a lace trimmed cathedral length veil.   The piece de resistance came towards the end of the night when Father of the bride got up on stage and serenaded his wife of 20 plus years.  Pass the kleenex please!!! Ginna and Ty’s love story began in China where they both worked and studied.  Their love for the Orient continued with their honeymoon in Thailand!!    They both wanted their wedding day to reflect their travels as well as their love story.   The club provided a bountiful display of Asian type foods and stir fry selections.  Baby Bites from Pastry Art represented our Groom with Chinese writing on each yummy treat and his table display had that artistic Asian flare, even adding fortune cookies!     Guests signed greetings to the bride and groom in a wonderful coffee table book of Chinese culture. Come and enjoy their romantic day full... read more

Advice on gratuity: Tipping your wedding vendors and how much is appropriate | AK Brides

One of the most asked questions from parents of the bride and groom is how much to tip the wedding vendors and is it appropriate.   I always tell these parents this is a very kind gesture for your vendors and always much appreciated.  Your vendors will work very hard for you pulling your entire vision together for your wedding day and most often will give so much more than what is promised.  This is a business of passion, not only for you as a bride but for our vendors who absolutely love their jobs and understand that this day is all about the bride.   You should always use your discretion when deciding how much you would like to tip based on their exceptional service if you felt they went above and beyond their contracted services and I hope that they do!     There are some vendors who must be tipped however and this is where we will begin. Vendors you must tip  unless specifically noted on their contracts that it is included; Transportation Drivers – The driver of your get-a-way car, drivers of your shuttle bus or trolly are great examples of people who need to be tipped the night of your wedding.  If a gratuity is already included in your contract and you would still like to tip your driver, $5.00- $10.00 per hour of their contracted service is a very nice gesture.  If gratuity is NOT included in the contract than a gratuity is expected.   A nice amount of 15%-20% of the total amount of the invoice is appropriate. Carrie and Boopathy | The Club | Birmingham Alabama | AK Brides | Real Wedding

Carrie and Boopathy came to me with a very specific vision for their wedding day joining two cultures of American and Hindu traditions together honoring both of their family’s heritage.  They absolutely fell in love with The Club as their venue to host the American portion of their wedding day.  This is part one of this glorious wedding representing the American traditions of the day.  I was so excited to work with this color palette of soft blush tones and gold accents and all the elegant details from the pink ribbon wrapped around macaroons as favors to Carrie’s gorgeous Badgley Mischka wedding shoes.   The day began early at the Hindu Temple with a celebration of marriage and a light lunch.  Our bride Carrie was then off to The Club where her hair and make up team was waiting to transform her from Indian traditions to American elegance and an evening ceremony ensued followed by a lively reception of dinner and dancing.  The weather gave us a little threat of rain and honestly one of my favorite memories from this day was Carrie and Boopathy agreeing to begin their ceremony about 10 minutes early to avoid the impending thunderstorm looming in the distance.   Well, the timing was perfect and just as soon as the minister pronounced them husband and wife and guests made their way inside the club, the rain arrived… but we made it!!!!   These stunning images from our wonderful friends Kelli and Daniel Taylor Photography represent just a part of this special day!                              ... read more
